Where to stay in Lekki

Lekki Phase 1

The default choice. Walkable to Admiralty Way restaurants, 10 minutes from Landmark Beach, easy Bolt to Victoria Island. Mid-range hotels like Lakowe Lakes Golf or George Residence run $120 to $180. Serviced apartments through Landwey or Airbnb start at $70. Phase 1 is the safest area and has the best power supply outside of five-star hotels. The core grid runs from the roundabout at Chevron Drive through to the old Lekki Toll Gate junction, a stretch you can walk end to end in under 20 minutes. Fola Osibo Road and Admiralty Way hold most of the restaurants, so a hotel within five minutes of either saves on Bolt fares most evenings.

Streets set back from Admiralty Way, such as Freedom Way and the roads around Ikota Shopping Complex, are quieter after 9pm and better for light sleepers, though you lose the five-minute walk to dinner. First-time visitors should pick a hotel inside the Admiralty Way to Chevron Drive triangle: it is the one part of Lekki where you can genuinely leave the car behind for a full evening. Expect to pay $10 to $15 more a night for that convenience over an equivalent room in Ikota or further along Freedom Way. Parking is rarely an issue at hotels in this belt, but street parking outside restaurants gets tight after 7pm on weekends, so factor a five-minute walk from wherever a Bolt driver can actually stop.

Ikate and Agungi

One notch further east on the expressway. Cheaper by 30 percent, still fine for Bolt access. Ikate Elegushi has cluster hotels around $50 to $90 a night and a lively night market feel. Good for budget travellers who don't need to walk to restaurants. Traffic getting in and out is worse than Phase 1. The stretch between Ikate roundabout and Agungi junction on the Lekki-Epe Expressway is where most of these budget properties sit, and a short keke or Bolt ride gets you to the bigger restaurants back in Phase 1 within 10 to 15 minutes off-peak, more like 30 during the evening rush.

Agungi itself is more residential and slightly cheaper again than Ikate proper, with rooms from $45 in basic guesthouses up to $80 in the better-kept serviced blocks. The night market along the Ikate side street is worth the stay on its own: suya stalls and small chop bars run past 11pm most nights, cheaper than anything in Phase 1. Book Ikate or Agungi if the budget is under $90 a night and you are happy to spend an extra 15 to 20 minutes in traffic each way; skip it if you are only in Lagos for two nights and want everything walkable, in which case pay the Phase 1 premium instead.

Victoria Island and Ikoyi as alternatives

If nightlife matters more than beach, stay in Victoria Island. Radisson Blu Anchorage Hotel Lagos V.I. on Ozumba Mbadiwe, $220 a night, gets you 10 minutes from Landmark and five from RSVP. Ikoyi options like The Wheatbaker ($280) are quieter and closer to the airport route. Both cross the link bridge easily to reach Lekki attractions. The Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge toll is small change, a few hundred naira equivalent, and the crossing itself takes under five minutes outside rush hour, so the two areas function almost as one strip for evening plans.

For something between the two price points, De Rigg Place Victoria Island runs closer to $140 to $160 a night and sits within walking distance of the Ozumba Mbadiwe strip, useful if the Radisson rate feels steep. Park Inn by Radisson Serviced Apartments Lagos Victoria Island is worth a look for stays of four nights or more, since the apartment format works out cheaper per night than an equivalent hotel room once you factor in the kitchenette. Pick Victoria Island over Lekki if your days are built around meetings on the Island or a nightlife circuit that runs late; pick Lekki if the beach and a slower pace matter more than being five minutes from Ozumba Mbadiwe.

What to watch for

Confirm generator power in writing. Confirm water pressure. Ask about the road right up to the hotel, some Phase 1 streets are still unpaved. Book direct if possible; Nigerian hotels often charge 15 percent less than booking sites. Ask specifically how many hours a day the generator runs versus grid power (NEPA, as it is still called locally), since a hotel that quotes '24-hour power' sometimes means diesel-backed rather than constant national grid, and diesel costs get passed on as a service charge at some budget properties.

Photograph the room on arrival if anything looks worn, since some smaller properties charge a damage fee at checkout that is easier to dispute with evidence. Ask whether breakfast is included before comparing rates across two hotels, since a $70 room with breakfast can beat an $80 room without it. If a listing looks unusually cheap for Phase 1 or Victoria Island, check the map pin against the address given, not the neighbourhood name in the title, since some Ikate and Agungi properties list themselves as Lekki Phase 1 to rank better on booking sites. A five-minute call to the front desk before booking resolves most of this faster than reading reviews.

Beach resorts further along the coast

East of Lekki Phase 1, past Abraham Adesanya and on toward Ibeju-Lekki, the road runs along a string of beach resorts built for weekend stays rather than city business. La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort and Chaka Resort both sit on private stretches of sand roughly 45 to 60 minutes from Phase 1 depending on traffic, with rooms from $80 to $150 a night and day-pass options for visitors who just want beach access. Wavecrest Beach Hotel & Resort and Jara Beach Resort are closer in, nearer the Eleko end, and work as a half-day trip as much as an overnight stay.

Honeyland Beach Resort is the budget end of this belt, with simple rooms from $50 and a beach that gets far less crowded than Landmark on weekends. None of these resorts are a sensible base if your trip is built around meetings, restaurants or nightlife in central Lekki or Victoria Island; the drive back after dark on the Lekki-Epe Expressway adds real time and the road lighting thins out past Abraham Adesanya. Book one of these for a two-night weekend detour, not as your only Lagos hotel, and confirm the generator and water situation by phone beforehand since standards vary more here than in Phase 1.

Budget hotels and serviced apartments within Lekki proper

For travellers who want a Lekki address without Phase 1 prices, a handful of smaller hotels sit closer to the expressway itself. Lekki Hotel and Suites and Bamod Hotel and Suites both run in the $40 to $70 range, with basic but clean rooms and generator power for at least part of the evening. Blue Apple Hotel and Towne Place Hotel sit in a similar bracket, useful for a one or two-night stopover before moving on to Ibeju-Lekki or back into the city. Arkplus Hotel and Suites is worth checking for slightly larger rooms at a comparable rate, useful for two people sharing rather than a solo traveller.

The trade-off at this price point is consistency rather than safety: rooms can vary noticeably even within the same property, so ask to see the room before paying if you book on arrival rather than online. Wifi speed is the other variable worth asking about directly, since some of these smaller hotels advertise wifi that struggles with video calls. None of this rules them out for a short, budget-focused stay, they are a reasonable choice if the trip is two or three nights and the plan is sightseeing rather than remote work. For anything longer, the extra $30 to $50 a night for a Phase 1 serviced apartment usually pays for itself in reliability.
